About Knowhere

Know where to go. Know where to stay.

Knowhere is an independent travel-discovery project with one promise: search a country, see what its cities are actually like, and find the right areato stay in — without us ever naming a hotel or taking a booking. We’d rather tell you the truth about a place than sell you a room in it.

How a city guide is made

Every city on Knowhere is built to the same honest structure, so a guide reads like a well-travelled friend telling you where to go — never a brochure. For each one we research and cross-check:

• •Where to stay, by area. 3–5 real neighbourhoods, each with what it's for, roughly what it costs, and how far it is from the centre — so you book the right area, wherever you already book.
• •The things actually worth doing. 15–20 must-dos, ranked, with a one-line reason a local would give — not an exhaustive list, a curated one.
• •Honest weather, month by month. Real highs, lows and rainfall for all twelve months, plus the trade-off between best weather, best value and best events — because they rarely agree.
• •What it costs. Indicative nightly ranges and price bands, stated up front, so 'mid-range' means something before you see it.
• •Like a local. Insider tips and a plain-English 'ask a local' Q&A — the timing, the trick, the honest steer you'd get from someone who lives there.

Each guide is validated against a strict template before it ships, so the depth is consistent from the first city to the hundredth — and each carries the date it was last reviewed, because places change and a guide should say when it last looked.

What we won’t do

We don’t name specific hotels or take bookings — we tell you the areaand send you to book wherever you already do. We don’t bury the downsides: if a city’s beach is really an hour away, or a month is too hot, or a spot is a tourist trap, the guide says so. And we don’t hide behind vague filler — every claim is meant to be something a person who’d been there would actually tell you.

Depth over breadth

We add countries and cities as they’re properly researched, not to pad a number. That means the map has gaps — and we’d rather have a smaller catalogue you can trust than a huge one you can’t.

About the photography

The images across the site are sourced from Unsplash and Wikimedia Commons and credited as such. They’re there to give you a real sense of a place; they are stock, not our own on-the-ground photography, and we’d rather be upfront about that than imply otherwise.

Planning together

Beyond the guides, a Trip Room lets a group plan a trip in one shared chat — everyone joins with a link, and a local guide called Lo helps you settle on where to go, when, and roughly what it’ll cost, all grounded in the same honest guides.
