• 2.Casco Viejo & the Seven Streets — The medieval old town — seven original streets packed with pintxos bars, boutiques and old shops, wrapped around the cathedral. The city's social heart; wander, graze and get lost among the crowds.
• 4.Mercado de la Ribera — One of Europe's largest covered markets, a grand riverside hall of stained glass, fish, produce and a lively pintxos gallery upstairs. Go mid-morning for a feast among the stalls; the building alone is worth the stop.
• 6.Plaza Nueva pintxos — A grand arcaded square in the old town ringed with classic pintxos bars — the heart of the weekend poteo, and a Sunday-morning market of stamps, books and curios. Order a gilda and a txakoli and join in.
