• 2.Puerto Banús marina — The Costa del Sol's glitziest marina — a parade of superyachts, designer flagship stores, supercars and waterfront terraces where the point is to see and be seen. Even if it's not your scene it's a spectacle; stroll the quay at sunset, grab a drink, and watch the money go by.
• 9.Puerto Banús nightlife — When Marbella parties, it parties in Banús — the big clubs behind the marina (and the legendary Olivia Valere up the hill) pull international DJs and a dressed-up, free-spending crowd through the summer. Expensive, glitzy and late; dress the part, and expect table service and eye-watering bar tabs.
• 13.The Nueva Andalucía market — Behind Puerto Banús, the big Saturday street market in Nueva Andalucía is a Marbella institution — stalls of leather, ceramics, fruit and cheap sunglasses, with a separate Sunday flea market for bric-a-brac. A cheerful, down-to-earth morning that undercuts the marina's price tags; go early before it heats up.
• 14.Playa de Puerto Banús — The beaches either side of the marina — Levante to the east, the smarter clubs to the west — put you a short walk from the yachts, the shops and the nightlife, with fine golden sand and the usual run of chiringuitos. The base for a beach day with the marina buzz on tap; busy and pricier than the east.
• 15.Golf in the Nueva Andalucía valley — The hills behind Puerto Banús are the 'Golf Valley' — a cluster of famous courses (Aloha, Los Naranjos, Las Brisas) laid out below La Concha, and the reason many come to Marbella at all. Green fees aren't cheap, but the setting is superb; book tee times ahead in spring and autumn, the prime seasons.
